Silage Films

PROTECTION FILM

Silage Film

Silage films are specially designed plastic wraps utilized in agriculture to store and preserve forage crops like hay and corn silage for livestock feeding. These films maintain an airtight seal, promoting anaerobic fermentation—a process that helps retain the forage’s quality and boosts its nutritional content. Commonly manufactured from LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene), silage films are engineered to be highly durable and resistant to punctures, ensuring long-lasting protection and effective preservation.

Purpose and Function:
  • Preservation:
Silage films create a sealed environment that prevents oxygen from reaching the forage, which is essential for anaerobic fermentation.
  • Nutritional Value:
Anaerobic fermentation helps convert plant sugars into lactic acid, which lowers the pH of the silage, inhibiting the growth of spoilage bacteria and preserving nutrients.
  • Storage:
The films help protect the silage from spoilage and weather damage during storage, ensuring it remains fresh and nutritious for a longer period.
  • Ease of Handling:
Silage films often have good stretchability and cling properties, making them easy to wrap around bales or other containers,

Application & Uses
Types of Silage Films
  • Stretch Films: These Films are designed to stretch and cling to the surface of the silage, creating a tight seal
  • Underlay Films: These films are placed on the ground before silage is added to act as a barrier against moisture and soil.
  • Bale Wrap Films: These films are specifically designed for wrapping round bales of hay or silage.
